LeTourneau University’s 2024 Spring Masterworks Concert will be held at the Belcher Center Performing Arts Center on the LeTourneau University campus in Longview on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Jim Taylor, Director of Fine Arts at LeTourneau, will direct the LeTourneau Singers and the Longview Civic Chorus and orchestra, with guest singers from Christian Heritage Classical School and Marshall High School. Soprano Leigh Latchford, mezzo-soprano Kimberly LaGraff, tenor Jon Starling, and bass Scott LaGraff will perform the vocal solos in the concert.
Franz Joseph Haydn’s monumental Mass in Time of War (Paukenmesse) and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ lovely Serenade to Music are the two featured choral/orchestral pieces for the evening, representing masterworks from the Classical and Modern periods. Instrumental works will include the first movement of the Concerto for Oboe & Violin by Johann Sebastian Bach and Am Stringbrunnen for harp solo by Albert H. Zabel (1834-1910).
Please consider becoming a sponsor of this magnificent concert, as our tradition is to offer it free of charge so that all can attend. A concert of this scope and magnitude is important for East Texas by 1) bringing to light the great masterpieces of Western Civilization, 2) providing training and experience for our students and community singers, 3) bringing selections of artistic beauty to the city of Longview, 4) providing challenging work to our local musicians, and 5) glorifying God for the gift and the ability to express our deepest concerns through music.
You can simply make a tax-deductible donation of any amount, or you can choose to sponsor a specific musician. To sponsor a musician ($200), please indicate which instrumentalist(s) you wish to support in the comments section of the form below. Names of sponsors along with the instrument(s) sponsored will be included in the concert program unless you choose to remain anonymous.
