LeTourneau University Director of Fine Arts, Dr. Jim Taylor, was selected as a finalist for the 2020 Arlin G. Meyer Prize in Music Performance.
Dr. Taylor’s award-winning composition titled, Cambridge Songs Suite No. 2 was performed in Carnegie Hall by the LeTourneau Singers and the Longview Civic Chorus during their trip to New York City in 2019.
“The piece I submitted for the Arlin G. Meyer Prize was Cambridge Songs Suite No. 2, which I conducted at Carnegie Hall on June 10, 2019 with many of our LeTourneau Singers students participating in the 125-voice choir accompanied by orchestra,” Dr. Taylor. “There are a lot of people doing great things, and it was nice to be in the top six,” he said.
The Arlin G. Meyer Prize is awarded biennially to a full-time faculty member from a college or university in the Lilly Network of Church Related Colleges and Universities. Work that exemplifies the practice of the Christian artistic or scholarly vocation in relation to any pertinent subject matter or literary and artistic style was considered. The prize honors Arlin G. Meyer, Professor Emeritus at Valparaiso University, who served as program director of the Lilly Fellows Program in the Humanities and Arts from its inception in 1990 until his retirement in 2002.
